We know sustainability can be a nuanced and complex topic, so we broke it down for you in a way that is simple and easy to understand.
Natural Materials
Citizens of Humanity is part of a Regenerative Cotton Program which allows them to support and source from international farmers using regenerative cotton techniques. As one of the most commonly used fibers in the textile world, cotton has an enormous ecological impact. Conventional cotton production has created a legacy of soil contamination and water waste, while regenerative methods improve water quality, heighten climate resiliency, and improve soil health long-term.
This brand also selectively uses innovative sustainable materials like TENCEL Lyocell, vegetable dyes, recycled plastic, and recycled threads.
Recycled Materials
When not using regenerative cotton, Citizens of Humanity opts for working with recycled cotton and recycled leather whenever possible. By repurposing past material, Citizens of Humanity breathes new life into it, doubling its lifespan and reducing the need to generate more materials.
Low Water Usage
Citizens of Humanity uses high-efficiency drying, dying, and washing machines to reduce their water, chemical, and power usage by 30-50% compared to conventional methods.
Low Waste
This brand uses eco-stones, natural enzymes, and organic softeners to significantly reduce the amount of sludge, chemicals, and water usage that occur in conventional denim treatment processes.
Fair Production
Citizens of Humanity produces most of their products in their own facilities located in LA and Turkey. By owning their own production facilities, this brand is able to maximize their oversight and emphasize sustainable production practices.
